Which is your favorite metal band?

no doubt iron maiden. but i think metallica / megadeth are also very good.

None has ever beaten Iron Maiden; yet there are a lot of underground bands (Ayreon/Alestorm/Eluveite/Ensiferum) people yet need to consider!

Yea, I had little beef with a pal in another forum about the same stuff. He said metallica is the most influential band in Heavy Metal whereas I said Maiden. Now its true that metallica is popular but the most influential band is Maiden after Black Sabbath. Judas Priest are considered a great band as well. So, Iron Maiden And Judas Priest are the second influential band in metal history. And speaking frankly (Dont mind plz), I don't like thrash metal neither megadeth. The lyrics of IRON MAIDEN (which is said "dark" enough) is really worth it. And Steve Harris, Dave Murray, Adrian Smith are just awesome. Bruce Dickinson is my favorite singer after Serj Tankian. Serj Tankian has a great vocal, just love it. Nicko Mcbrain is most probably the greatest drummer for me!

all 'em are great bands.
For me, Maidens and Sabbaths are the real legends. Talking 'bout Metallica and Megadeth, i consider 'deth to be superior than 'llica due to some reasons. i must agree that Metallica is more popular than Megadeth, but Megadeth is technically, musically and lyrically better than them. Though there is some problem in Dave Mustaine's voice( vocalist of Megadeth), combination of unique guitarist Marty Friedman and all other members is awesome. You should check out some of their great albums such as Rust in Peace, Countdown to Extinction and Youthanasia. I dont disregard Metallica. I admire their master pf puppets, unforgiven series, enter sandman, and other stuffs, but for me Megadeth is always the best.

I would like to give a credit of top rock bands to the following:
1. Pink Floyd
2. Dire Straits
3. Eagles
4. Led Zeppelin
5. The Beatles

Dude, If you know better, Metal is a sub genre of Rock!! Metal did evolve from rock, although people believe metal to be a different genre, but it still is a rock genre music.

The basic western genres are:

Jazz, Folk, Rock, Blues, Classical.

I'd say all metal falls under at least one of these categories, for example:

Jazz: Behold...the Arctopus

Folk: *ok, maybe not this one...*

Blues: Led Zeppelin

Classical: Yngwie Malmsteen

Having said that, they'd probably all fall under the genre of rock.

Depends on what you consider rock - does Fats Domino sound like The Beatles? Do the Beatles sound like Captain Beefheart?

If you started this just in case I said "not metal" then I'm sry , I mean to say, "Not metals only!".
But if you believe metal is a different genre, then I've got nothing to say coz I believe metal falls under Rock!

Mr. Nepal, I truly am in accordance with your arguments regarding the evolution of Metal from Rock. Though most of the genres have evolved from Rock music as a sub-genre, I said

not just because i was unaware of the fact, but I just wanted to be more specific 'bout the type of music the band creates or play. Remember, the band usually want the fans to appreciate them with their respective types of music rather than accrediting them to Rock genres. Yes, all the bands(metals, folk, progressive, neo-classical, etc) are Rock bands. But tell me, what would you like to call Dream Theater? a Rock Band or a Progressive Metal Band? Definitely they are a Rock band but you should specifically and seriously consider them to be Progressive metal band. If not, then their creation are of less importance (and they simply had played simple stuffs with few gadgets, or with slow tempo, or with few licks or grooves with no solo).
And, though Iron Maiden are a Rock Band, they are still a Heavy Metal players.
