Jimi Hndrix is the most influential guitarist of early century but he is still the legend and god of guitar.
After Jimi, I consider Joe Satriani as his heir. Most of us may not know him to be the mentor of the most famous guitarists such as Steve Vai, Kirk Hammett, even Kurt Cobain. His techniques are awesome and the creations are very melodious. Similarly, Eric Johnson, Yngwie Malmsteen, Michael Angelo Batio, Vinnie Moore, Luca Turilli and many more are spectacular in their respective genres.
